CRUXIAL Projects

CRUXIAL - Conversant [1], Radio Userland [2], XML [3] and other Internet Application Languages

As the expansion of the acronym suggests the CRUXIAL projects will incorporate one, or more, of several recent Internet technologies/applications.

BONEZ Project
The purpose of this project is to allow Radio Userland's (RU) playlist to be exported (uploaded) to a Zope server to be incorporated into a database containing ID3 records. Zope could then be used to provide a dynamic web interface to the database and would allow various search criteria to be used to retrieve tracks. The playlists created by this selection mechanism could then be imported (downloaded) back into RU. The playlists are used to program the MP3 player controlled by RU. In effect, the combination of RU, MP3 player, and Zope acts as a jukebox for MP3s. The 'jukebox' contains file and ID3 details for local MP3 files held on the user's machine.

CRUX Project (This is a Third Year (Hons) Project)
The purpose of this project is to design and implement convertors that convert from RU's Outline PML (XML-formatted) outlines into other formats. For example, OPML to RTF [7], or OPML to HTML [8]. There are a number of different techniques that could be used in the implementation of the convertor(s) ranging from full blown XML parsers at one extreme to quick hacks using regular expressions to search and replace at the other.

CRUZE Project
The purpose of this project is to combine Radio Userland (RU) with Zope in some meaningful way. There is already some development in this area - Zopefish [9] - and one of the first phases of the project is to evaluate Zopefish to see if it would be a sound basis for the design and implementation of CRUZE.
