I was interested to read Dare Obasanjo's opinions on Why Facebook is Bigger Than Blogging. I'm not convinced. I think that the two forms of communication are complementary rather than competitive. Recent posts over on the BBC' news site - BBC NEWS | Technology | How to make friends on Facebook and BBC NEWS | Technology | Facing up to Facebook fears tipped me over the edge and I joined Facebook about a week ago - Facebook | Duncan Smeed - and I'm probably the oldest codger on it!

I'm interested in reconnecting with as many of my old students as possible as I'm hoping to set up an Alumni Association for Strathclyde CS graduates. So, if any of my old students are reading this and haven't yet joined my circle of 'friends' over on Facebook I'd be delighted to welcome you there. If nothing else you'll get a chuckle from the 'CAD' caricature that one of the CADet teams drew up some years ago ;-) You may even hook up with some of your old pals that have already befriended me!

Good to see that Seth's request for contributions to his PMC Software Auctions has been given wide publicity such as MacWorld's News: Mac developers donate software for cancer research:

As an impulse buy I've just purchased Yep via today's MacUpdate Promo. I am impressed and so far so good. At the moment Yep doesn't support Mailsmith (my preferred e-mail client) for e-mailing PDFs but he workaround for now is just to drag'n'drop a PDF onto Mailsmith so it's not a big deal. I've asked the developers to consider Mailsmith support in a future version.

Until I used Yep I had no idea I had so many PDFs (>2000) lying around. As a university lecturer Yep seems to be an ideal way to organise my chaotic PDF collection.

Jim also linked for the first time to the reason for the Origin of Willing To Fail. Reading that I was struck how close it was to my own situation. I have to thank Jim for the inspiration and motivation that has helped to snap me out of my own procrastination.

I've just signed up for Picasa Web Albums and have also downloaded (and installed) the iPhoto exporter plug-in and the Uploader app. Now all I need to do is sort out some photos!

I've just upgraded to the latest versions of MarsEdit and NetNewsWire. A great combination. Can't promise that it'll make my posts more frequent and/or more informative but now that the exam marking season is over you never know ;-)
