BarCamp / BarCampScotland

(by Duncan, @ 12:15 AM)

I've just signed up for BarCamp / BarCampScotland. Should be interesting. Looking forward to it.

Thanks to Ewan McIntosh for bringing the event to my attention. When I meet someone like Ewan - in this instance on the train from Glasgow to Edinburgh a couple of months ago - it renews my enthusiasm for the use of web technology in education. A chance meetings like our's is also evidence of the 'six degrees of separationprinciple. In our case one degree of separation in the form of Don Ledingham and Extreme Learning (XL).

It's time...

(by Duncan, @ 11:44 PM)

...to start blogging again. Where to start? Not sure. Need to give that some thought. One of the reasons for the extended hiatus has been the fact that there have been more important ad urgent things to cope with over the past months. Now things are returning to some semblance of normality I'll find the time for reflection. There's so much to catch up on...

Not that anyone will have missed the loss of another inconsequential voice from the blogosphere ;-)

Holding back the offshoring tide

(by Duncan, @ 11:03 PM)

The British Computer Society has just published a report about Holding back the offshoring tide:
"With the trend to offshore IT services forecast to accelerate, the UK's IT industry needs to take action to retain its position on the global stage, warns a new BCS report.

A seven-point action plan for BCS to help the UK IT profession face up to the challenges posed by globalization forms the core of the new report 'Embracing the Challenge, Exploiting the Opportunities: Building a World Class IT Profession in the Era of Global Sourcing.' ...

The new report is accompanied on the BCS website by a series of new articles on various aspects of offshoring and how to turn this trend to the UK's advantage."
