Darwin has been a groundbreaking project on many fronts. Its hybrid BSD architecture is a technical triumph that makes life immeasurably better for both users and developers. What's more, putting the core of its commercial offering into the hands of the open source community has made Apple the first major computer manufacturer to fully embrace the open source movement. For Mac OS X developers and users alike, that move opens the door to the many benefits -- from better code to a stronger community -- offered by the open source model.

A start-up, Butterfly.net Inc., and computing giant IBM , have created a global network for online video games capable of supporting a million players or more that will be rented to major game publishers, the companies said Thursday.

The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, today announced that he has asked the Performance and Innovation Unit (PIU) to carry out a project examining the development of Electronic Networks in the UK over the next decade.

The project will look at predicted technology and market developments; the importance of Electronic Networks to UK productivity and growth; and the regulatory challenges for the next decade. The output of the project will be a report to Government which will assist with the setting of future Government policy and approach, and will contribute to strategic thinking for the new regulator OFCOM...
