Electronic Networks

(by Duncan, @ 10:29 AM)

Electronic Networks
The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, today announced that he has asked the Performance and Innovation Unit (PIU) to carry out a project examining the development of Electronic Networks in the UK over the next decade.

The project will look at predicted technology and market developments; the importance of Electronic Networks to UK productivity and growth; and the regulatory challenges for the next decade. The output of the project will be a report to Government which will assist with the setting of future Government policy and approach, and will contribute to strategic thinking for the new regulator OFCOM...

The Dev-C++ Resource Site

(by Duncan, @ 11:06 PM)

The Dev-C++ Resource Site:
"Bloodshed Dev-C++ is a full-featured Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the C/C++ programming language. It uses Mingw port of GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) as it's compiler. It creates native Win32 executables, either console or GUI. Dev-C++ can also be used in combination with Cygwin.

Dev-C++ is Free Software (also referred as Open Source), and is written in Delphi (yes I know the irony)."

De-junking my office

(by Duncan, @ 11:29 PM)

Regular readers of DJ are bound to leap to the conclusion that I'm about to embark on a displacement activity. Perhaps in the short term that's the case but in the longer term I'm convinced I'll be more productive.

I totally need to de-junk my office at work. It's a total mess. If I don't attempt to filter the junk but just throw it out based on age then I guess it's possible I can get done in a day. Not filtering is unrealistic however and so I reckon it'll take another day on top of that to compensate. At the moment I have barely enough desk space to use my iBook. Perhaps I should time-lapse photograph the dejunking progress. At the very least a 'before' and 'after' shot.

Apart from clearing the logjam in my office, I am hoping that the exercise will also clear the logjam in my brain. I need a (symbolic) fresh start. If I don't do it during next week then it's not going to get done. Wish me luck. If you don't hear from me by the end of next week send in the avalanche team with sniffer dogs to dig me out of the junk mountain I may well be buried in ;-)

Brent's list of important books to learn how to become a Mac developer

(by Duncan, @ 3:20 PM)

Brent's inessential.com: Weblog
"I sometimes get email asking me about how I learned to be a Mac developer. Here's a list of books that have been most important to me...."

I was interested to read the emphasis Brent placed on C. An opinion I completely agree with BTW.
