Intel aims at Transmeta with new chips
Chip giant plans to power down its 2001 mobile offerings with a slew of new low-power chips, starting with an 'ultra-low power' mobile Pentium III.
The CES in Las Vegas has just finished and the Xbox has finally been officially unveiled by Bill Gates and friends. The console was revealed after a lenghty keynote speech by Gates himself, in which he mentioned vaguely that the Xbox is still scheduled for late this year in the US, although he did not mention a specific price range.
Phil Shiller even showed up for the obligatory Pentium showdown: this time, a 733MHz G4 cranked out the Photoshop test 33% faster than a 1.5GHz P4. A little math turns Apple's MHz gap into a 500MHz surplus, as the 733MHz actually performs at a 2GHz level. If you hadn't guessed, that power to burn slogan includes CD, DVD, and Pentiums.
