In Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station

(by Duncan, @ 8:03 PM)

Here I am in an interent cafe in Waverley Station waiting for my train connection. I missed the 18:30 by a minute or two and now need to wait until 21:00 for the next train. Hence this message.

Wish I'd found this cafe before - I wouldn't have wasted an hour already. Note to self: never have a Burger King meal again!!

Well this week has been a write-off as far as I'm concerned. Virtually every waking moment has been spent marking student assignments and fire-fighting the class test debacle yesterday. The main reason for my missing the train connection was the fact that Pete and I were in the lab this afternoon right up to the wire - marking and giving feedback and help on the last assignments.

I'm completely knackered now and very much looking forward to the Christmas and New Year break. I need to recharge my batteries. I'm wondering when I'll get the time to catch up with the family things.

Regular readers now know one of the reasons for the lack of updates on this site. I'm looking forward to the time to surf and link a bit more. Perhaps even to tart up the site with a little festive decor.

A festive revamp

(by Duncan, @ 8:11 PM)

Whether I get the time to update this site design is an open question. Don't hold your breath regular reader. Jim [hbwt] also bemoans the fact that the web moves so quickly that it's easy to fall behind with the cool things that are happening. My first priority over these holidays is my family and this weblog may come in around thirty-seventh ;-). There's so much I need to catch up on and I'm looking forward to having the time to do it.

Going home

(by Duncan, @ 8:40 PM)

Train leaves in 20 minutes. Time to go - my hour of internet access for £3 is almost up. I guess it was a better investment than an overpriced beer in an impersonal station bar. At least it's warm in here even if everyone else on the PCs are obviously members/friends of the cafe owner - and there playing a noisy game of networked Quake (or is it Doom). Who knows. Seems such a wast of these nice flat-screen IBM NetVistas.

Logging off now. Bye.

It's been a hectic few days. I plan to backdate Saturday and Sunday entries when I get time.

The Christmas cake is baking

(by Duncan, @ 11:48 PM)

I'm going to be up at least another hour as the Christmas cake wasn't put into bake until 9pm and it takes at least four hours to cook. Smells nice right now though!

Update: 2am - time for bed. Took the cake out 20 minutes ago. Looks and smells great.
