The IntelÂ® PentiumÂ® 4 Processor webpage has links to some PDF documents that overview the architecture of the P4. Clocking at >= 1.4GHz why does it apparently perform less well than a P3 or an Athlon? http://www.smeed.org/580 has details of that story.
