Hi Bart,

Since your backlight problem seems to be 'fixed' by pressing to the left of the trackpad this is more indicative of a logicboard problem that may be covered by the Apple - Support - iBook - Logic Board Repair Extension Program. There are plenty of posts/threads about this over in the Apple - Discussions - Displays forum. For instance, Apple - Discussions - iBook out of serial # range? CALL APPLE may be relevant to your situation. As may be Apple - Discussions - iBook screen flickers--only sometimes???. I also bookmarked the following pages when I was researching my fix so these may be of some help too:

  1. iBook Backlight Fixing, January 2004
  2. Apple - Discussions - At 30 degs the screen goes black!
  3. Apple iBook (Dual USB) hinge problem fix

If, OTOH, it's more like a flaky cable then Apple - Discussions - 90 degrees and black out!!!! and and/or Apple - Discussions - Backlight problem (inc solution) may be a better bet.

I assume you've read all the posts in the Successful fix for my iBook's flickering LCD backlight problem thread.

HTH,

Duncan
