If I could chip in here and say that Brian's sites push the envelope
of Conversant much more than mine does. One of these days I hope I'll
get up to speed enough to implement many of the features that Brian
is exploiting so effectively.

Again, I agree. Conversant is a different kind of beast to the likes
of CityDesk. Although I'm only scratching the surface of its
capabilities I can't imagine how other products could better.
Conversant is much more than a Content Management System. I think of
it as a personal knowledge management system as well as a
collaborative (content) management system.
I could sing its praises all day but it's getting late here in Scotland...
